I was inflamed into writing because of the following article on USA today:
Despite evidence, jury flubbed Anthony verdict - USATODAY.com
I have to disagree. I cannot see it any other way. It was the prosecutors who flubbed the Anthony trial. The government failed to present a "sane" case against this person who will now never pay for the death of her child and subsequent lies that has lead a nation to feast over the bones picking at them looking to blame anyone for this oversight but in actuality has blamed themselves.
A kid died, justice was needed to be dished out for her murder, in attempt to get the death penalty and erase another life Florida allowed a murderer to go free by trumping up the charges with little solid evidence. There will be no justice here, the killer walks free and potentially the doors available for her to walk through from here include one with 7 figure interview deals and a minor celebratory role in our society.
If anything we as a society have a really good opportunity here to do some reflecting on what it is we allowed to happen, because a jury is a sample of our society. We ask a jury to speak on our behalf and we as a country decided that the only crimes that the we will allow the U.S. government to convict Anthony for will be those four misdemeanors. The jury cannot be blamed at the results here. Their job was to determine guilty or not guilty based on the presented evidence and I really think they did so. The true foul-up occurred with the very government that sought the charges it did. Corrupt and power hungry prosecutors looking at the next rung on the political ladder. Stepping over the bodies of people that can not afford to defend themselves whose lives are shattered and irreparable after going through the court system. Convictions not for justice but for selfish means.
